How many driving lessons will I need before sitting my restricted test?
Every learner is different. Some students need just a few refresher lessons, while others benefit from 5–10 structured sessions. During your first driving lesson in Christchurch, we’ll assess your current ability and create a plan to get you test-ready as efficiently as possible.
Do you provide the car for the restricted driving test?
Not at this stage. we are working on new terms and conditions to make this work. If there is an urgent need for a car for the test, we may make considerations.
What areas do you cover for driving lessons?
Drive To Survive provides driving lessons in Christchurch, Rangiora, and surrounding North Canterbury areas. If you’re unsure whether we cover your suburb, just get in touch.
Where will we meet?
We offer pick-up from your home address if you’re located in a non-rural area. If you live in Christchurch, Rangiora, or Kaiapoi, we’ll meet you at the home address listed on your booking. If you’re in a rural location, we usually recommend meeting at a local VTNZ or another convenient location such as your school or workplace.
How long is each driving lesson?
Standard driving lessons are 60 minutes. This allows enough time to build skills properly without overwhelming new drivers. Longer sessions are available which can be more beneficial. 1.5 hour and 2 hour sessions can be booked.
Can parents sit in during lessons?
Yes, parents are welcome to sit in during lessons if the student is comfortable with it. We also provide clear feedback so parents know exactly what to practise between sessions.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson?
We understand that things come up. We ask for reasonable notice (48hrs) if you need to cancel or reschedule your driving lesson. Full details are provided at booking.
Do you help with defensive driving skills?
Absolutely. We focus on real-world defensive driving skills, hazard awareness, and building confident decision-making — not just passing the test. The goal is to create safe, capable drivers for life.
