All About Your
Driving Instructor
Jonny Roverts — Lead Instructor, Drive To Survive
I first became a driving instructor to chase my dream of being self-employed — but what I didn’t expect was how much I’d fall in love with teaching people to drive. T
en years later, I can honestly say it’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
Over the years, I’ve taught everyone from 16-year-old beginners to 95-year-old legends, as well as advanced and fleet drivers.
My calm, patient style focuses on hands-on learning, using questions to build self-directed confidence and real-world skill.
Working with students who experience high levels of driving anxiety has shaped how I teach — I’ve learned how to create a safe, supportive environment where people can truly grow.
I also put a lot of time into upskilling, building strong knowledge of New Zealand’s Road Code and Road User Rules so I can deliver the best possible training.
Before becoming an instructor, I worked as a building labourer and a baker — both jobs that taught me the value of patience, communication, and hard work.
Outside the car, you’ll usually find me with my family, out for a surf, at the gym, or drinking way too much coffee.
Students describe me as calm, friendly, and having nerves of steel.
My goal is simple — to help every driver feel inspired, supported, and confident that no matter how nervous they are, I can help them succeed on the road.
